Happy Veterans day Poems 2018

Philip Freneau
But fame is theirs – and future days
On pillar’d brass shall tell their praise;
Shall tell – when cold neglect is dead
“These for their country fought and bled.”

 Henry Ward Beecher
Are they dead that yet speak louder than we can speak,
and a more universal language? Are they dead that yet act?
Are they dead that yet move upon society and
inspire the people with nobler motives and more heroic patriotism?

Happy Veterans Day Songs

Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Mother and Poet
Dead! One of them shot by the sea in the east,
And one of them shot in the west by the sea.
Dead! both my boys! When you sit at the feast
And are wanting a great song for Italy free,
Let none look at me!

Sophie Jewett, Armistice
We pray the fickle flag of truce
Still float deceitfully and fair;
Our eyes must love its sweet abuse;
This hour we will not care,
Though just beyond to-morrow’s gate,
Arrayed and strong, the battle wait.

 Happy Veterans day Poems for Kids & Elementary Students

Dear Lord, We pray for blessings on this assembly
of extraordinary men and women,
who did things most people don’t want to do,
went to places we would never want to visit,
and lived at length in uncomfortable surroundings
we can’t even imagine.
They did what they did from devotion
to their country’s freedom, honor and reputation.
They endured difficult service
because they are exceptional people,
a cut above the rest of us,
who live safe, comfortable lives.
We pray that you will bless them mightily, Lord.
Lavish on them now
abundant comforts and pleasures
they so often did without.
We pray that our country
will always honor their service
expressing frequently profuse gratitude
for their service to keep us safe and free.
In Jesus’ name we pray

Veterans, Teach Us

by Anonymous

Veterans ere you leave us—and thin are your lessening columns,
Ere you are laid with your wounds in the soil of your glorified country,
Stars and Stripes on your coffin aud taps blown soft in the graveyard,
Ere you pass to the shore where your comrades are drawn up to greet you.
Give to us who remain a share of your courage and vigor;
Teach us, young and mature, the zeal that age has not withered.

The Veteran and the Child

by Hannah Flagg Gould

‘Come, grandfather, show how you carried your gun
To the field, where America’s freedom was won,
Or bore your old sword, which you say was new then,
When you rose to command, and led forward your men;
And tell how you felt with the balls whizzing by,
Where the wounded fell round you, to bleed and to die!’

Fall In!

by Anonymous

Who shall march with the veteran band,
These who saved a united land,
These our heroes humble and grand,
Who shall march with the soldiers?

A Route for the Procession

by Anonymous

Where shall the veterans march to-day.
With drum and fife and with banners gay.
Where shall they take their memorial way?

Let them march by the city hall,
Let them shout to its echoing wall,
“Live for your country the first of all.”

Let them march by the great church door.
There will they cry, “Hear the weak implore,
Free the oppressed and the wronged restore.”

The Revolutionary Soldier’s Bequest

by Hannah Flagg Gould

“Behold,” the hoary veteran said,
“The silver scattered o’er my head;
A remnant of the auburn hair,
That curled in sunny clusters there,
When, in the land that now is thine,
With bounding flock and fruitful vine,
While Freedom’s banner waves unfurled,
The envy of a gazing world,
Life was but slavery to me;
And when I fought, my son, for thee.
